Covidien Joins HPRC
The Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council (HPRC) welcomes Covidien, a leading global provider of healthcare products, as its newest member, bringing the total council membership to 12 companies. “We are excited to have Covidien join forces with HPRC,” said Tod Christenson, Director of HPRC. “As we seek to improve the recyclability of plastic products in healthcare, their insights will be instrumental. Covidien’s track record of innovation and clinical leadership brings invaluable bench strength to our collaborative efforts to inform, influence, and be a catalyst for change for sustainable healthcare products and packaging.”
“Membership in the HPRC will complement Covidien’s key initiatives around innovation and productivity, as well as support our Sustainability vision and strategy,” said Joe Jansen, Vice President, Environmental, Health and Safety, Covidien. “This membership will allow us to work with stakeholders to identify opportunities to reduce the impact of our medical devices and supplies products at end-of-life. Covidien is constantly looking for opportunities to be more environmentally responsive.”
In early May, Covidien will host the next HPRC full-council meeting in Boulder, Colorado. The meeting will be held at the recently opened 63,000-square-foot Research & Development (R&D) Innovation Center. The new space is designed to facilitate innovation within R&D, featuring 18 new laboratories and housing about 160 employees involved in the development of next-generation surgical devices.
